So… let me tell you a bit about what has been going on since we got here.

The first two weeks we really did not do much in the city at all. We went to school, worked alot in the evenings and worked our way through the scary world that is the Santo Domingo restaurant scene. Slim pickings, but its all an adventure right?

But I have to say I am finding myself loving the same city that I more or less hated this summer. Santo Domingo is alot of fun with all its crazy, gusto and charm. Cute neighborhoods are not exactly everywhere in this city of 3 million, but they pop up when you least expect it. Dilapidated wooden houses are painted in strong colors, and mixed with colonial style buildings and rather horrible prison-like concrete towers with bars on every window and a views to similar prison-like towers.

We are lucky to live in a somewhat older although maybe not colonial building. Its really quite basic, but comfortable still. Our first night in the house was accompanied by the constant soundtrack of our neighbours only cd. So 2 days later we moved across the hall, no longer directly on the street. It was a decision of all time greatness.

The city though, is buzzing with activity, and constantly changing character. Saturdays are completely out of hand crazy, with the loudest of music blasting from everywhere, where as Sundays are as smooth, comfortable and just wonderfully relaxed as can be. We have not been as much out and about as we´d like because of work. But its been great. And come this weekend we plan to stay in the city and try our best to add to the mania that is Saturday night in Santo Domingo.
