Hi tumblr friends!
We finished our movie. It is short, but we are proud of it, and we hope you will watch it. It is simply a portrait of where we have been living and working this past year, and the people we have gotten to know. Please watch the movie, and please give it a thumbs up on youtube or favorite it, reblog it on tumblr and or leave a comment, as that really helps drive traffic to the film, and that in turn will draw peoples attention to these small communities.
"In this short ethnographic film Dominican and Haitian residents of a banana-growing community near the Dominican-Haitian border talk about their work in the surrounding banana plantations and discuss everyday life in the small batey. In doing so, they shed light on the economic forces that bring Haitians to the Dominican Republic for a job that brings bananas to European supermarkets
Made in the banana-bateyes of the northwestern Dominican Republic. This film was filmed and edited during a year of ethnographic fieldwork. The movie is an attempt at being an honest portrait of a Dominican batey, and is an accompaniment to a PhD thesis currently being written by Kimberly Marie Wynne of the Univeristy of Oslo on the same communities.
Spanish with English subtitles.
Filmed and edited using a canon 7d, zoom H1 audio recorder and Final Cut Pro X"
