Monte Cristi, in the north-western corner of the Dominican Republic will be our home for the coming year. We have been here for a week already, and there have been highs and lows aplenty. We still have no real place to live, but are working on it. We have received no offers to be adopted by a Dominican family. Hopefully this weekend will bring us the news we are hoping for and we can move into our own place next week, the only house for rent in the entire city with enough space for us it seems. So we have to start the big process of shopping for furniture etc. (totally unfurnished house, sadly, but there is actually an IKEA in Santo Domingo that delivers).
But for now. Some quick facts about Monte Cristi:
Population: 25,000
Climate: Hot and Dry
Known for: A second tower by Eiffel (from Paris fame), a violent carnival where the kids field bullwhips and run around town cracking them, salt production, mosquitos, bananas, and the morro (a big mountain with a sandy beach cove on the other side).
Next time. An update from a home, with places to sit, internet and a fridge with cereal in it… Hopefully.
